Melissa Tosiano
I am a PhD candidate in the McManus lab at Carnegie Mellon University researching post-transcriptional regulation of filamentation in Candida albicans. By exploring principles of gene expression in the context of pathogens, I’m bridging the gap between basic and applied science. My prior work includes environmental consulting and developing an assay to detect minute amounts of HIV RNA.
As a non-traditional/first-generation student, I love sharing my enthusiasm for science with absolutely everyone. My outreach hinges on personal connections – smashing stereotypes about scientists and helping folks “think biologically.”
I’m always on the lookout for the next big adventure in and out of the lab. Let’s connect!
